Nothing about a unit needs the store's network. It arrives provisioned, joins the cellular network on its own, and its data is included with your subscription. Store Wi-Fi exists for one situation: a mounting point where LTE barely reaches — a basement prep area, a walk-in, deep inside a metal building — and the store's own Wi-Fi does.
- Open the store's page and find Store Wi-Fi.
- Enter the network name (SSID) and password exactly as the store uses them, and save.
- Every cellular unit at that store receives the network at its next hand-over, restarts, and from then on prefers Wi-Fi with cellular as the fallback. Until that hand-over it keeps reporting over cellular as before.
| Network | Works |
|---|---|
| Ordinary 2.4 GHz network with a password (WPA2) | Yes |
| Open network with no password | Yes — leave the password empty |
| 5 GHz-only network | No — the unit's radio is 2.4 GHz |
| Guest network with a sign-in page (captive portal) | No |
| Corporate network with a username and password (802.1x) | No |
The password is sent to each unit and is not kept by HeatAlert — the store's page shows only the network name and when it was set. A unit assigned to the store later copies the network from a unit already there; if it is the first unit at the store, the page asks you to enter the password again.
Clearing Store Wi-Fi puts every unit at the store back on cellular only, again at each unit's next hand-over. Moving a unit to a store without Wi-Fi does the same for that unit.
